Medical Contraindications

In order to ensure the safety of all of our providers and clients, please review the following information about medical contraindications
for our spa services.
Services may be denied or re-scheduled for a later date if any of the following apply.
Importance of Identifying Contraindications:
-
Prevent Adverse Reactions: Contraindications can cause irritation, infection, or other negative reactions.
-
Ensure Treatment Effectiveness: Some conditions can prevent a service from working as intended.
-
Protect Provider/Client Health: Contraindications can pose risks to the provider and/or client's well-being.
Types of Contraindications:
Spa treatments, especially those involving heat, can exacerbate a fever and potentially worsen the body's fight against infection.
Treatments should be avoided when suffering from any contagious illness like the flu, cold, or skin infections, as they can be easily spread to others.
Open wounds or active skin infections (like cold sores, warts, impetigo, or ringworm) can be aggravated by spa treatments and pose a risk of infection.
Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or other inflamed skin conditions may be worsened by certain treatments, especially those involving certain products, heat or massage.
Some spa treatments, such as saunas, hot tubs, and certain massages, are not recommended during pregnancy due to potential risks to the mother and fetus.
Individuals with heart conditions, high or low blood pressure, or those taking medications affecting blood pressure should exercise caution and consult with their doctor before spa treatments.
Certain medications can interact with spa treatments, especially those involving heat or changes in blood pressure. It's crucial to inform staff about all medications.
Recent injuries (like fractures or burns) or surgical sites should be avoided until fully healed to prevent complications.
Individuals with a history of blood clots or clotting disorders should avoid spa treatments that may increase the risk of further complications.
Individuals with severe osteoporosis should exercise caution with treatments that may put pressure on bones or joints.
Conditions like Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis may require adjustments to treatments and caution should be exercised.
Individuals with diabetes, especially those with neuropathy, should be cautious with treatments that may affect blood circulation or sensation.
Recent sunburns should be avoided as they can make the skin more sensitive and prone to further irritation.
Consult a healthcare provider to determine the cause of swelling before undergoing spa treatments.
Individuals with a history of epilepsy should consult their doctor before spa treatments, especially those involving heat or sensory stimulation.
Spa treatments should be avoided when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
